Hashima Island (端島; meaning "Border Island"), commonly called Gunkanjima (軍艦島; meaning "Battleship Island") is one among 505 uninhabited islands in the Nagasaki Prefecture 長崎県, about 15 kilometers from Nagasaki 長崎市, itself.
It's a lost city, which is so attractive but later the feeling of emptiness comes out which is so horrifying. A city without life is like this, and how about a house, a garden, etc.? when we apply it to the museum-like historic relics, the same feeling comes out...
It's like a ghost town, erroded by wind and rain by years. It's like looking a dead corspe of a person who no longer breath ... ... ... ... Only medical people (architect/ artist)or people (past occupants) relating to it would feel interested.. Like you said, for other people, wonder where would the meaning be?
